Is It The End or Only The Begining?

As I went through all of the things we had to do there were a few that were my favorite. One of my favorite things was when I used the Animoto to create a 30 second clip. Also I really liked when I had to create an avatar. I liked how I got to design it to look however I wanted it to. By doing this program I have decided that I want to make sure that I keep up with the new technology and how I can use it in my future classroom. As I was going through this I would have to say that an unexpected thing would of been how easy it was to do the things. When I heard I had to create a blog and complete all these different task on technology I thought it would be hard but to my surprise it wasn't that hard. If I had to suggest one thing to improve on with this program would be maybe have better instructions when it comes to inserting links. At times I had a hard time trying to figure out the correct way to make it work. When I become a teacher I plan on taking what I learned and incorporate it into teaching my students whether it is using a video in class or creating some type of social networking page the parents and students can get on to find out information about what is going on in the classroom. I plan to keep up with the new developments on the web by checking websites and having time set aside for me to explore what is going on in the world of technology.

My resolution is that I will continuing my learning by using RSS for feed about the new advancements in technology. Also I will take time to remake my blog so that it will be a tool that I can use in my future classroom. I am going to try and get comfortable with the tools that I have learned and find ways to use them in my classroom.

Thing #23

Learning 2.0-23 Things is  created around different sources that are open for public use. These sources provide ideas about educational information and how to work with them. Google, Wikis, Flickr, and Facebook are just some of the many examples of sources used. Because the are open to the public and for educational use  they are allowed to be used.

After exploring the different sources I have a better understanding of Creative Commons and fair use. With my new understanding I can now know what I can and can't use in my future classroom.

Thing #22

While working with LiveBinder I created three binders. The first one is called reading in this binder there are different ideas teachers can use in the classroom. Another one is called classroom decor which has different ideas for teachers to decorate their classroom. Finally there is classwork templates which has links to different templates to use in the classroom on different subjects.

Thing #21

Twinkie

When making this video I had a great time. I liked how there was different types of styles to choose from. Also I liked how you can choose from different songs they have on there or how you can upload your own song. When it came to making this clip I chose to use pictures of me and my sister. My sister is getting married and so this part of the project gave me the perfect opportunity to look back on the good times we have had so far. Being able to pick the pictures you want or being able to upload a video to put into clip was also a good feature. Animoto is a very user friendly site and I feel that anyone could use it. As a teacher there are many different ways that you could use Animoto in the classroom.

Thing #20

I like how when you are on YouTube you can search for all types of videos. Also I like how you can post your own video on there and have others see your post. I chose this video because I feel like it fits perfect with what we are learning about in class. This video gives ten reasons why teachers should use technology in the classroom. You could use this site for  your library website for students to be able to see what a book is about before they read it.

Thing #19

Some online communities I am a part of is GoodReads, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. I have used GoodRead for one of my Children's Literature class. I like how on GoodReads you can find books that you might be interested in and see what others said about it. Also you can chose a genre of the book you want to read and see what is a popular book to read. Another website from the list of social networking sites on thing 19 I tried the Project Playlist. I liked how on Project Playlist you can find the songs that you like to listen to a create a playlist for them. Also I like that you can have as many playlist as you want. Some of the most appealing sites for me is Pinterest and GoodReads because they have great ideas as well as provide feedback on what others think about whatever you are looking up. I plan on using Pinterest and GoodReads when I am a teacher because they have good tools to use when I become a teacher.

Thing #18

https://twitter.com/TallonKristen

It is important for educators to know about social networking because it could be part of their students lives. Also social networking is good for educators because it gives them a way to communicate with other educators and get advise and see how things are going for them in their classrooms. When creating my Twitter account I gained more knowledge of being able to find resources that I might need when teaching. I liked how these sites provide an easy way for people to communicate better with one another. I liked Facebook more when comparing being able to talk with different people. However, when it came to being able to see the new ideas and updates that come along I like Twitter better for that. I could use Facebook in my classroom by having a Facebook page for my class that way my students' parents can add or like my page and get the latest information about what is going on in the classroom.

Thing #17

I think that Delicious is a good tool to use when teaching. I like how you can access all your bookmarks no matter what computer you are on. When exploring Delicious I liked how you can create tags to put certain links in group. I do see a potential use for this in a classroom. I think that it will help teachers keep better track of the websites that they want to use. I can remember being in class and my teacher looking through a long list of bookmarks trying to find a certain website and it taking forever to find it. I think that this would of been a great tool for her to of used. Also teachers could create a tag for there students to find websites that would help them practice on material that is being taught in class.Teachers can take advantage of social bookmarking site by being able to see what other teachers are using in class. They can get ideas from others on how to use a website or find websites that they might not of thought about using. Teachers could do a lot with Delicious to help them when teaching, they just have to figure out how they want to use it.

Thing #16

First I created my iGoogle page. I changed the theme to match my style. Then I added some gadgets. I added a to do list to help me keep up with my school work that needs to be done. Also I added google calendar so I could see the up coming holidays. Then I added sticky note so I could remind myself of little thing that I have to get done. Finally the last gadget I added was Bible Verse of the Day gadget so I can have a daily Bible verse to remind me of God is in control. The tools can help with school as well as at home. You can set reminders for things that you have coming up at school as well as task that you have at home that need completed. I think that the to do list is helpful even though you have to take some to write everything it will be worth it when you get everything you have to do done and not forget one of your tasks. Online calendars can be useful because some people spend a lot of time on the computer and this way they will know of what events are coming up. Also online calendars are good because you can make one and then share it with others who would need to know about the same events you have coming up. I would set my iGoogle page as my home screen because it has a lot information I am interested in all in one place. Plus it has all the gadgets that I could want on it.

Thing #15

I think that Wiki would be good to use for group projects. I like how it allows you to add and share things on the site. Using Wiki can provide you with information on where you can get informaion needed. I could use this in my class by having my students work in groups of  two or three and give them a topic we are talking about and have them create a Wiki where their classmates could get information about what we are learning in class.

Thing #14

After looking at the different types of flow charts and mind maps I decided that I would rather use the mind map. I chose this one because for me it makes it easier for me to see how everything connects. You can have one big topic and then break down the topic with different facts on the topic. For me being able to see how all the facts relate and way it is organized it better for me understand what the mind map is providing information on. I liked bubbl.us between the two mind maps I like how the bubble in the middle is one color and the ones attached to it is another. Also I like how once you branch off the topic you can have a branch off the idea connected to the topic.

This could be really helpful when it comes to school. Students can use them to study as well as gather information when working on a project. Using mind maps is a great tool for students to use for brainstorming. There are many uses for mind maps. Teachers and students have to find the one that fits their learning style and use it.

Thing #13

When exploring on Zoho I used the word document and the presentation. On the word document I used it to make a to do list. Also I played around with the presentation to see the different things that you can do with it.

Students can use Google Docs to share what they are working on and let other contribute to their work. Also students can collaberate with who they want to work it. Google Docs lets you modify others work this can help students who are working together on a project and not in the same place be able to make changes to the work.

When exploring between the two Zoho and Google Docs I decided that I like Google Docs better. Google Docs give you more options to share and work with others better. Also with Google Docs you can take it with you wherever you go because they have a mobile app.  Zoho has a mobile app too but I like the way Google Docs app is setup better.

Thing #5

School 2.0 means using the internet in the classroom more. You can share and get almost any type of learning material you could need to teach. As a teacher you will have to have to teach students how to find the right type of material. Also teachers are going to have to explain the difference between scholarly information and information that might not be accurate. For schools in the future they are going to be centered more around technology. The students will probably have books on a device and use devices to turn work in instead of paper. Also teachers will have to make their lesson plans work with the technology in the classroom. Web 2.0 makes getting information easier. Even though there is a lot of information we have to figure out what we need to focus on. With school 2.0 the way teaching is going to completely change.

Thing #12

https://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc&pli=1&gsessionid=yTmLy4fBGO43H6IDi8LfbQ

Here is a link to the calendar that I created using google calendar. I tried using the Google Alerts FQA to see how it worked. You can use the calendar to show students and their parents when things are due or upcoming events. The Google Alerts FQA could be used in the class room to send alerts about news paper articles on a topic being discussed in class. As a teacher you can use the calendar as a way to do a lesson plan. Also you can make up a calendar for each student to have at their desk so they can stay on top of things that are happening in class. The Google Alerts was kind of confusing when you first start using it. These two tools have many ways to be used in a classroom.

Thing #11

The easiest method of finding feeds for me was the google blog search.  It helped me find a variety of different blogs that met my interest. The technorati was confusing for me I could not figure out which ones were for the RSS and there were to many different things going on there for me. I found feeds about things you can do in your classroom. There is one that I follow called Ladybug's Teachers Files that have a lot of good ideas for your classrooms. Also it has ideas for worksheets and projects you can use. One unusal one I found was about a taco. Other tools I used to find blogs were links that were on the blog I was reading.

Thing #10

When it comes to RSS and newreaders I think that it is a good idea.  This way you get to receive the information you always look up with out having to go look and see if they updated it. For school I could use this by finding sites that have ideas about whys to do things in the classroom and when a new one comes it shows up instead of me having to find it. Also I could use it to talk about a topic over a period of time.  I could have the students pick what they want to talk about and then subscribe to a site that has information on the topic and we can watch as a class for new information to arrive. For my personal use I can use it to see the different trends of fashion that is going on as well as many other options.  Teachers can use this to their advantge by saving time on having to find out the new information on something they already looked up. They can have it show up in a feed and then incorperate the information into their lesson. There are many ways teachers can use this to their advantage the teacher just has to decide on how they are going to use it.

Thing #9

HEY JACK!

This is the link to make a license plate. http://license.plates.txt2pic.com/
I chose to make a license plate because it looked fun to do.  I could use this with my students to talk about different states.  Also I could use this site with my students to let them create a license plate that represents who they are.  They can choose which ever state they want and then type whatever they want to.   Using this site I can allow my students express themselves and their creative abilities.  This site could also be used a a project for my students.I created mine based off one of my favorite TV shows Duck Dynasty.

Thing #8

I could use Flickr and Flickr mashup to create a collage of students in my classroom. By using these tools you can create memories that will last for my students. I could allow my students to use Flickr and Flickr mashup as a form of a project to see what they can come up with. I don't really have a problem with sharing my photos. I share photos other ways like on Facebook and Instagram.

Thing #7

http://www.flickr.com/photos/pop_corn222/8503751164/
When making a Flickr account it was pretty easy.  I had fun taking pictures and putting them on Flickr.  I would use Flickr in my classroom to allow parents to see pictures of their students that get taken throughout the year. I have used another photo hosting service before. I have used Instagram it is kind of like Flickr except that on Flickr you can join groups and on Instagram you can only follow people. Having my photos on a public place doesn't bother me because I chose to let it be public and not change the settings to private. Working with Flickr has been fun cause it allows you to take pictures and edit them to be different then when you took them.  It is fun seeing the different pictures of others that you can look at.

Thing #6

24me is a tool that allows you to create a to do list and reminds you when things are due and at what time they are due. Also 24me allows you to pay your bills by linking your service provider to it and then it will create a pay bill task. A few days before your bill is due it reminds you and you can go in to the app and pay your bill. There is also a section where you can put your task in and they will find someone to do it for you. The section greet friends will make sure that you never miss a friends birthday. You can share task and others can help you get the task done. You can put the task that needs to be done in to the app by speaking to it through voice command.

This tool and help in school by allowing you to put in when you have projects due and reminding you when you have a test coming up. This app will help you not miss a due date for you school work once you put in all the information needed.

The link to 24me that informs you of all the applications that it can do. Also it tells you what phones it works for and where to download the app.

Thing #4

Commenting on blogs can make a blogger more confident. It allows them to get others opinions as well as reinforce the writers. If a blogger is writing something you like and you comment they might write more.

When you comment on a blog it can spark a converstation. When people start talking they create a community. This community forms around the blog that is being commented on. When people comment the blogger doesn't feel like they are talking to themselves.

Mary Ann Swaney
Raleigh Scott
Rebecca Brooks
Jessica Hudson
Sarah Hammontree's shammontree's 23 Things
Are all students blogs that I commented on.

The two other blogs that I commented on are
http://teachingiselementary.blogspot.com/2013/02/civil-war-traveling-trunk-inspires.html?showComment=1361461897634#c3507470552036846516

This blog is about how a teacher used a Traveling Trunk to teach her students about the civil war. I commented on this because I thought that it was a good way to make the studnets excited about learning about the Civil War.

This blog give a lot of helpful ideas for a teacher to use in the classroom. I commented on the peer review worksheet because I thought that it was a good way to have students help one another with their writing.

Thing #3

In the future a blog could be helpful as a teacher for many reasons. For instance you could write assignments on the blog so if a student forgets to write the assignment down or is not in class they can know what to do for make up work and homework. Also teachers can use the blog to inform the student's parents about up coming events in the classroom like field trips and parties.  Also it allows the students to be able to leave comments and ask questions and either students or the teacher can answer. Finally, it will allow the teacher to be able to post links to websites that could be helpulf for the students to study.

Thing #2

I have never had any experince with creating or using a blog before nor have I ever read a blog. I decided on the name of my blog by using my name. It was something simple and tells you who is creating this blog. At first creating my blog was easy but then it started getting a little confusing. When having to put my avatar on my blog I had a hard time figuring out the right way to do it as well as where I should place it. It was a little frusterating but once I got the hang of it was okay. When creating my avatar for my blog I did my best to make it look like me. My avatar is wearing my favorite color and the color of the hair matches mine. I made my avatar look like me because this blog is mine so who better to be on it then an avatar that looks like me.

Thing #1

In the seven and a half things they give you many habits to think about. They all talk about life long learning. There were a few that stuck out to me while I was going through the tutorial. For instance the hardest habit for me was to view problems as challenges. When a problem comes up I tend to have a negative feeling towards the situation. So I need to start looking at problems as a chance to prove to myself that I can over come anything thrown at me. One of the easiest habits is use technology to your advantage. When I get stuck working on something if it's a question on my homework or finding out information need to do an assignment I go to the computer. I can search for the information and use it once I figure out what I need. With technology changing it is becoming easier to find what it is that you need to know. The habits that was shown on the tutorial all promote life long learning.

When it came to setting up my blogger account it was easy. Everything that you had to do to make it was simple. One of the fun things for me was getting to choose what it looked liked. This allowed me to give it my personal touch. Throughout this process of creating a blog and making post I want to  learn how to use Web 2.0 tools I have never had any experiences using them before so I would like to gain a knowledge of how Web 2.0 works.
